About Us CVFD

Cordova Volunteer Fire Department

CVFD has been serving the community of Cordova, Alaska since 1908. Our objective is to preserve life, property, and the environment by providing fire and life safety services and education. We are primarily a volunteer organization with volunteer leadership and a small number of paid staff. Whether you need fire suppression, emergency medical treatment, or CPR training, we’re here to answer the call.

CVFD has 2 Fire Stations to cover our 72 square mile service area. Led by Fire Chief Stephen Phillips and Deputy Fire Chief Micah Renfeldt, between 20-30 volunteer firefighters and medics work directly with the City’s Fire Marshal and a City-employed firefighter/medics to provide 24/7 Fire and Ambulance service to the community.

CVFD includes a Rescue Company, Engine Company, and EMS Company. Available apparatus include Rescue 1, Engine 3, Engine 14, Medic 7, Medic 8, Tanker 9, Water 1, ATV 1, and Harbor 10. The Fire Department structure falls under City Code Title 3 Chapter 3.20.0

CVFD meets every Thursday night at 7:30 pm in the Firehall, and active members regularly attend ongoing training and drills.
